ANNUAL ETHICS BRIEFING & NLRB REGION 28 UPDATE

Kick your summer off right with four hours of Ogletree CLE!

Agenda:

9:00 am - 10:00 am - Tom Stanek

For the first hour of CLE credit (non-ethics), join nationally recognized labor attorney Tom Stanek for a cutting edge labor boot camp focused on Region 28 of the NLRB. Tom will brief in-house counsel on recent developments coming out of the NLRB’s General Counsel’s office in Washington D.C., as well as provide practical advice for employers wanting to stay out of the NLRB’s and Region 28’s crosshairs. With Arizona unionizing activity reaching an all-time high, the NLRB’s anti-employer majority and the NLRB General Counsel’s prior engagement as Special Counsel for Strategic Initiatives with the Communication Workers of America Union, Arizona and national employers should buckle their seatbelts and prepare for a wild ride on the NLRB rollercoaster. Tom’s coverage of what you need to know for handbooks/policies, severance agreements and other possible issues is a must-do.

10:00 am – 12:00 pm - Joe Clees & Nonnie Shivers

Following Tom Stanek’s must see labor session, Joe Clees and Nonnie Shivers will provide two hours of fast- paced, entertaining updates on recent legal ethics and professionalism developments specific to you as in-house counsel. Joe and Nonnie will cover a myriad of hot ethics issues, including data security and recent leaks across the country, new Arizona data breach law and practical strategies on how to protect your organization, protecting privilege and confidentiality in settlement communications, ethical negotiation strategies, including how to ethically handle demands and court orders that a corporate representative with “full settlement authority” appear at settlement conferences, professionalism in the remote work era, new Arizona and ABA ethics opinions, and, of course, lawyers behaving badly!

12:15 pm - 1:15 pm - Dr. Dennis Davis, Ph.D.

For the final hour of CLE credit (ethics to meet your full annual allotment or carry over to next year!), Dr. Dennis Davis, Ogletree’s head of client training and a world-renowned speaker, will present a special lunch-time CLE titled “Killin It, Without It Killing You: Effectively Managing the Stress of a High Octane Legal Career.” This hour will quash any lingering doubt that a fast-paced legal career can be stressful. While some in the legal profession resort to mal-adaptive measures to deal with the stress, your legal career does not have to be detrimental to your mental and physical health. This upbeat presentation will detail the 5 steps toward stress inoculation.
